Shay - I am pretty sure now that DBCP and c3p0 are not being shutdown properly..meaning i see the asynch threads created by the libraries still running even after the webapp is stopped...can u let me know how is compass shutdown...i am looking for a method like shutdownCompasS()

Compass should shutdown all its threads when you call Compass#close(). You are using Spring, so it should be closed when the application context closes. You can increase logging in Compass in order to check if it actually closes.

By the way, regarding the work manager, did you manage to configure Compass with it? If you want to configure it you should set the following settings:

compass.executorManager.type=workManager
compass.executerManager.workManager.jndiName=jndi of the work manager

I am currently working on setting up the work manager...i have some trouble looking up the work manager from WebSphere 6.1 NamingService...once i get past that issue...i will see if i need further assistance...
